Rhodocrosite

Mined almost exclusively  in Capillitas, a remote Andean region of Argentina.  The mine was uncovered in 1938 by Franz Manfiel who found an Incan mummy holding a rhodocrosite amulet in its hand.  Rhodocrosite occurred as stalactic formations identified by a circular pattern in the stone.  Crystals are usually small and very rare.
